私がどんな気持ちで蚤の市を回っているか、少しでもお伝えできれば嬉しいです。
今回は「枯れた」器の楽しみについて。
ブロカントやアンティークを探す時、気になるのがコンディション。
100年前のクレイユ・エ・モントローのデッドストックプレートに出会った時などはもちろん、心踊るもの。
けれど私は、「完璧な」アンティークを探している訳ではありません。
むしろ、傷やダメージをこそ楽しむことさえあるほどです。
貫入や、器全体を覆う茶色のしみ。一般的にこれらがあると「残念」と思ってしまうものですが、私のお客様の中には「このシミがいいんですよ〜」と好んで手に取る方もいらっしゃいます。
ブロカント仲間の間では「いい感じに枯れてるね」なんて言い合ったりもするんです。
私にとって、それらのダメージは欠点ではなく、愛すべき個性。
その器は、100年の時を超えて、今、21世紀にこの手元にあるのです。
その器が100年前のフランスの家庭で使われていた様子を想像してみてください。
たった1つの古ぼけたお皿に、どれだけの物語と、誰かの思い出が詰まっているのかを。
その物語こそ、私にとっては値札より大切なものなのです。
「枯れた」器の美しさは、樹齢を重ねた樹の幾重にも刻まれた年輪や、つやつやになるまで使い込まれた革の財布にも通じている気がします。
時間だけが、その美しさを纏わせることができるーー私が古いものに惹かれる理由のひとつです。
もしあなたが何かを見つけて、「永遠に私の手元に置いておきたい」と感じるなら、それはあなたにとっての宝物。
市場の価格や誰かの声、流行などよりも、あなた自身の直感を信じるべきです。
シミも傷もミスプリントもひとつもない、完璧なものだけを求めるなら、その人は多分IKEAに行った方がいいと思います。
けれど100年の物語をその手にしたいのなら、ブロカントの世界こそがぴったりです。

Why I Love “Imperfect” Antiques
I’m not looking for perfect antiques.
In fact, I prefer items that are not perfect. For example, look at this antique plate. It has many fine cracks, called “crazing,” and some small stains. In Japan, we describe this beauty as “kare-te-iru,” which means it has aged deeply and gracefully.
To me, these are not flaws; they are signs of love. This plate has survived for over a century. Imagine a French family using it for Sunday lunch 100 years ago! It carries so many stories and memories. I believe that this history is much more valuable than the price tag.
It’s like the rings of a tree or the texture of old leather. Time is the only thing that can create this kind of beauty. I truly love this vibe. When you find something and feel, “I want to cherish this forever,” that is your real treasure. You should trust your own intuition rather than the market value.
However, here is my advice: if you are only looking for something spotless and brand new, you should probably go to IKEA. But if you want to hold a hundred-year-old story in your hands, this is the one for you. Let’s find a piece that speaks to your heart!
